Helping Out A Bee – EyeSpark Weekly (October 2, 2026)
So I'm actually writing this much later than I have for my previous Weeklies, I have been gathering some stuff throughout the whole week of course, but I haven't written down anything until literally today at 8 PM. I really should've started just writing this instead of trying to think too much, as it's all getting much clearer as I write.
I don't have that much to share from myself, I did take a pretty cool picture of my living room which I'll share at the end of this post, but I guess probably the biggest thing I did this week was help out a little bee worker on Sunday! It seems she flew into my flat, but she seemed quite disoriented and was struggling to fly, and it worried me since I only noticed her after I saw my cats trying to attack her, which could've ended very badly for both the bee and at least one of the cats, so I stepped in. I put her in a little napkin, took her to a safer area (my kitchen), tried to give her some honey (my friend then told me it's probably better to give them thinner sugary drinks, so I'll keep that in mind for next time), and then I took her out to the balcony and she seemed to fly away okay! This was a small moment, but it made me quite happy, as I really love bees.
That cheered me up quite a bit, and so did the things I engaged with this week, which I'm about to share!
I have shared some of Calvin Dyson's videos before, as a fellow James Bond enjoyer, but this week he made one of his occasional videos that isn't directly about Bond, this time about the 1980 Flash Gordon movie that starred Timothy Dalton. I never knew about this, but I'm very glad I do now, as I love silly and campy movies like this! Also, bonus points for Brian Blessed.
I found a video about The Gary Hudson Project mod for Portal 2 which they used to propose to their significant other, made by Snail USB (the video, not the mod). This is a story I already know, but I love seeing a video about it anyways as it makes me quite happy every time!
This video is 3 years old, but I did find it this week so I wanna share it anyways: it's Max Miller's video on Al Capone's Soup Kitchen, where he also cooks a soup from an Italian-American cookbook of the era. He has made other videos on culinary history mixed with actual cooking, and I find that very cool, as it combines two of my favourite types of videos!
I found this very cool video about the graphic design behind Jeopardy by Ok So…, which delves a bit into how TV visuals worked back in the 1980s. I do actually know a little bit about the history of Jeopardy (thanks, Weird Al) but I never thought to look into its graphic design until now, and I find it so cool that what was a very traditional style at the time is now extremely specific to one show. I also have watched one of his videos before, specifically about old Blank VHS boxes, and I've watched some more since, I really like his stuff!
Lastly, also about graphic design, I found this promotional video about the look behind the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, which also came out a few weeks ago but I only found now. I already love the logo(s) they made, which was/were announced years ago, but this is the first time I'm seeing all the details about the fonts and patterns, which I absolutely adore! It's hard to say for sure as I've liked all the recent designs, but this might be my favourite of the decade so far.
I shared some of ToastyGhostey's Chell and Gordon Freeman fanart last week, and since then he also made this adorable one of Chell in an HEV suit. Also here's another very cute piece of fanart by Caitlin Rose Boyle of Silent Hill 3's Heather walking a Double Head; I don't know how she made one of the series' monsters cute, but she really pulled it off.
Now to sign off, here's the photo I promised! It's a high-exposure photo of my living room which I took late at night a few days ago, as I really liked how the bars in our windows and balcony cast a very harsh shadow at night, and it even looks better in high exposure!
And that's about it! I hope you've had a good week, and that this upcoming one is good too — I really hope it is, my birthday is there!
