Pitahaya – EyeSpark Weekly (October 9, 2026)
This was quite a good week, fortunately! I had a lot of fun on my birthday and spent some good amount of time with my family and some friends, and I wrote two posts I'm quite proud of, a remake of an old post, and my longest post of all time!
Aside from that I walked around El Botánico with my dad once again yesterday, we walked 6.28km in our longest walk so far, and I ended up stumbling upon some areas I've never seen before with some old things, and I took a few photos of them which I'll show at the end of this post, just like last time.
Also as a treat after we were done we had some dragonfruit which we bought last week, and it was my first time trying it in years — essentially like my first time ever as it had been so long I forgot what they tasted like. They were quite good, they definitely don't have a super strong taste, but it was quite good, and I felt like they had a bit of a coconut undertone which I liked! I have yet to try pomegranates and starfruits, so this is my first special fruit ever I guess (Fruit Ninja reference).
Now onto the real flesh of this post, the media I've engaged with this week!
I somehow forgot to mention this last week, despite literally releasing the same day and me watching it immediately, but I absolutely loved the Kill Count Games episode on the Resident Evil 3 remake, just like all the other Resident Evil episodes so far! RE4 is my favourite game in the series, so I'm really looking forward to that episode too! (I really hope they cover the 2005 original instead of the 2023 remake, but I doubt it)
There's two Valve things this time! I caught Pretzel's new Weird Spots in HL2 episode in time, finally, and it was about Anticitizen One, one of my favourite parts of the game! I also really liked Archenlander's video comparing Portal 1 and Portal 2, as it is a debate I had with myself for a while, and although I'm on the side of Portal 1 now, it does bring up a lot of good points for the general discussion.
Melons.
I randomly came across the YouTube Channel of BOBERT_art (Rob Shaw), who does a lot of oil painting, but has taken it one step further by making 3D models and actually texturing them with actual oil paintings, and using them for games and other stuff like Minecraft texture packs, which is extremely impressive! I specifically stumbled upon this video on the issues he's faced with mapping, but I highly recommend watching the others too, I find them all super fascinating.
Lastly, to coincide with the start of Dropout's Make Some Noise Season 5 (amazing premiere btw) I came across this video about the show's points by noted otamatonist TheRealSullyG (alt), which I found extremely fun as both a math nerd, Dropout enjoyer, and someone who loves seeing people take gags way too far.
Here's some quick art stuff: A bit of Luigi's Mansion fanart by ¿Mr.Whatshisname?, these two pieces of Deltarune Chapter 5 art by DiscountSupervillain, and this incredible needlepoint Stardew Valley map by Keroan, which they made for the Desert Bus 20 Craft-A-Long, which starts in 2 weeks!
I also wanna point out that tomorrow is October 10 which is The Orange Box's anniversary! I am not sure if I'll actually write something about it again, as I don't really have anything specific to add, but I will be partaking in this week's LambdaGen Gamenight playing Team Fortress 2 Classified, which I really enjoyed last time! And who knows, I have written stuff right after gamenights before.
And that's it! I fortunately got really back into my regular schedule this week after losing it for a bit, and I did start writing this update earlier as opposed to starting today, which I wanna try to do more often.
I hope you have a great week too! Like I promised, here are more photos I took in the Jardín Botánico:
