Común y Corriente – EyeSpark Weekly (Jun 5, 2026)
I wasn't sure on if I would write this week at all, let alone a weekly update, but I guess I am! Though this one will be a bit different.
To officially reveal what I've been teasing lately, I am currently in New York! It was just to visit some family, but in the end I wanted to make the most of it, so I've been staying here for the week. I am spending just 5 full days here, including this one, which is actually my last, so I am / have been making the most of it!
I could definitely share a lot of what I've done already, though I think it'll be easier for me to do so once I return and all the thoughts have settled in, however, I do wanna share a thought that has been in my mind throughout the entire week.
One of the reasons I started this blog (probably the main one) was to share my interests with others, some of which are fairly mundane, but I've always loved taking mundane things and finding interesting stuff in them. New York, being the massive and tourist-heavy city it is, has a lot of interesting things to look at, however a lot of the things that have drawn me in the most are not those, but rather things that are fairly ordinary in comparison.
I was thinking about this a lot the day before yesterday specifically, as I went through some of Brooklyn Bridge Park, and for some reason it absolutely drew me in. I don't know if it was because it reminded me of the malecón back home, or the fact that it was generally a nice and walkable third space, but regardless, it's been etched in my mind since. It might end up being my absolute favourite place I visited during this trip, which feels insane to say about a standard public park, but again, I just love the ordinary.
I took a lot of photos from this park, including the header image, and I'll share some more at the end of this post.
Lastly about this, I did say I wouldn't share much of the other things I did right now, but I do wanna say that I've been thinking of this in some way since Monday, my first full day here. That day I went to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and among the many cool things I saw, there was an exposition titled Ideas of Africa, which featured a lot of photographs of/by people from multiple African countries that were fairly mundane, to subvert the stereotypical views Western countries had of the continent. There was something about this exhibit that really resonated with me, and I do think it's that love for the ordinary I have.
If I had to guess on why this happens — and why I love the ordinary in general — I'd say it's because it's what most of our time is spent on. It's not every day that you get to visit expositions and museums; sometimes you just stay home, or wander around without a specific destination, and I find it important to appreciate these moments too. Like I said, it's what ultimately most of our lives are dedicated to, so why not make the most of it and enjoy them‽

Anyways, I guess this is also a Weekly Update now, so I'll share the few things I've been able to watch while on this trip so far! No video games or art from social media this time, which is fine, but I do have a handful of videos, though they're really just the usuals.
On Monday Dropout's Game Changer Season 8 continued, this time with the only Game Samer this season, Roulette 2! I was already anticipating this one, as Sam mentioned it would be the next episode in an interview, and it absolutely smashed my expectations. With the perfect cast, Sam fully being a pseudo-contestant (plus Paul Refereeno), and the new Golden Rule which all players must follow, this is probably the most chaotic episode of the entire show yet, and that's saying something.
Dead Meat said last week that they were keeping the next Kill Count episode a secret, and today it finally came out, and it ended up being on Scary Movie! They previously said they wouldn't cover it, but it appears they've changed their mind. The episode was great, even if they couldn't get in as many jokes as they would've liked, and I'm excited for the episode on the sequel next week! To be honest though, their original commentary is still one of my favourite things they've ever done.
I also really enjoyed both Yahtzee's Fully Ramblomatic and Semi Ramblomatic videos this week, though I don't have much to add about them. I have yet to play Mina the Hollower, but I will very soon, maybe even on my way back home tomorrow! Also I haven't watched the new Taskmaster episode yet, as I'll wait for when I'm back home, so I guess I'll talk about that along with the Series 21 finale next time.
That's it for this week! Except not really of course, I'll talk about other stuff I did this week in more posts soon, but this is it for now. No matter where you are, I hope you've had a good week too!
And, as promised, below are some more pictures I took in Brooklyn Bridge Park!
