EyeSpark Weekly – May 22, 2026
This was another pretty hectic week for me, but at least I managed to do some nice things. We got a new small cabinet from Ikea on Monday, and we decided to put our board games there! Pretty much all of these games used to be in another cabinet with a lot of other things, which made them quite fiddly to get out and generally discouraged me from wanting to play them, but similar to my cubeshelf, I actually feel motivated to play them with this new set up! I might talk about in more detail some other day.
Also I don't know why this keeps happening, but I keep going to places where I find paintings I really like. On the weekend I had lunch with some family, and the restaurant we were in had a very big eclectic portrait, which I found was made by Mexican artist Armando Romero. I'll show it at the end of this post.
As for the media I've engaged with this week, it isn't much in terms of quantity, but definitely high in quality! I've kept listening to LRR's From Rewatch with Love (I'm at the Quantum of Solace episode now), I watched this week's Taskmaster episode (S21Ep7) which was super fun, and I really liked Yahtzee's Semi Ramblomatic on FPS weapons.
Monday saw the return of one of my favourite shows, which I surprisingly don't think I have mentioned directly on my blog before, and that is Dropout's Game Changer, a show where the game changes every show! The first episode of their 8th season has come out, and it was a doozy, where they essentially had to violate broadcasting regulations to progress in a giant board game. The start of it is up for free on YouTube, but it only gets more chaotic from there. This is an amazing way to kick off the new season, and I can't wait to see what's next (also looking forward to the behind the scenes of this one).
I feel like I've mentioned his videos in almost all of these posts, but Archenlander has released two Half-Life videos this week, both of which I really enjoyed! The first was about the weird architecture and quirks of the Black Mesa Research Facility, and the other about what exactly is HL2's Bugbait/Pheropods. Even if I don't biology, I really loved both of these videos, and I like how Archenlander keeps finding a way to find lore in places where there most-definitely wasn't meant to be any.
After a few months of teasing, Dead Meat have finally made a separate channel for Dead Meat Games, hosted by Zoran! It officially launched on Saturday, and they released the first episode of Kill Count Games Season 3 just today, where Zoran covered the indie game Fear The Spotlight by Cozy Game Pals. I love the new set, and although I haven't seen anything else from the channel yet I plan to very soon, as I know it'll be great, and the new episode itself was fantastic!
Lastly for videos, this is a bit beyond the scope of what I usually talk about in this blog, but it felt notable enough that I had to include it. This was the last week of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, as it was announced to be cancelled by CBS a while ago. The show has been going all week in a blaze of glory, fully ending just yesterday, but amongst the many things they did, David Byrne performed — the rather fitting — Burning Down the House live on the show. I've mentioned it before, but I love David Byrne, and Talking Heads is my favourite band, so this made me very happy to see. RIP The Late Show.
As for video games, I have returned to two games this week, though one much more than the other. I played Balatro again for the first time in months while waiting for something, and I won my first game back with the Nebula Deck in Green Stake, though I haven't played it that much more. The real game I've been playing a lot of this week is Minecraft, coincidentally coinciding with its 17th birthday. Specifically I've returned to an old Skyblock world, and I've actually done quite a bit of work on it! It's been very fun, and I might also talk about it in a future post.
Next week I'll spend a lot of time preparing for something big that'll happen, that I might've teased somewhere in this very post, but I have been thinking of some ideas of stuff to write about here – some of which I've mentioned already — so I might go back to writing a bit more actively!
Also, as promised, here is the painting from Armando Romero I saw. I haven't identified what the source painting is, but all of the "graffiti" and "stickers" you see are actually also paint! I haven't been able to find the exact name of this piece, or its source, but I hope you still enjoy it.
I hope you have a good week!
