Finishing A Mario Maker Jigsaw Puzzle 7 Years Later
It's past 11PM as of writing this, which is much later than I'd usually write anything, but I spent so much of today on just one thing that I feel like I have to write about it to clear my mind up a little bit, and I'd generally just love to share it.
Today I (with some help from my mom) spent approximately 9 hours working on an old Mario Maker Jigsaw Puzzle! And I have a bit of a story to go with it, as this isn't actually the first time I've tried this exact puzzle.
Back in Late 2019, almost 7 years ago, I bought myself a 550-piece Mario Maker puzzle by USAOPOLY (now The OP Games), and I spent a few days working on it with my mom after school days, and we were very excited when we almost finished, but it turns out a piece was missing. It probably fell off and camouflaged into the similarly-coloured floor, and then fell off our flat somehow, but either way, that piece was gone, we never finished the puzzle, and it's since stayed in my closet inside a trifold of shame… until now!
Okay actually, it's still in the closet, I mean, there is no recovering that piece, especially not over 6 years later. Instead I bought it again off eBay a few months ago, and after verifying that the pieces were new and buying a fitting frame to put it in, I waited for the perfect day where I wouldn't be busy at all and could fully focus on it, and that was today! My mom helped me again with it, mostly with the border, but she helped me a lot with little things too. I didn't time it exactly, I wish I did, but if I had to guess it took me about 9 hours, as we started almost at 11 AM, I finished at 22:49, and we took quite a few breaks, so that's my approximation.
It was actually extremely fun… except for the almost 3 hours we took with all the pure yellow pieces, which are about a ninth of the whole puzzle, that wasn't very fun… but I loved everything else! Due to the grid-like nature of the image there were a lot of hints you could pick up to help with the puzzle, like finding the correct orientations of things via their shading, and deducing where a piece needs to go by looking at what's around it before actually getting there. I really like that kind of stuff!
I haven't framed it yet, I will tomorrow, since I am not doing that while I am this sleepy, but I am very excited to! I'll have to figure out where to keep it. I really like puzzles, and I had a lot of fun with this one! I remember I did 7 years ago, and I'm very glad that I did again.
