From A Spectator – EyeSpark Weekly (July 10, 2026)
After the weekend's cubing competition I haven't actually had that much to do during the week, so fortunately I have a lot of media to share this week, and a good amount of new stuff again!
Out of absolutely nowhere I found this video about Apple's failed attempt at making a TV by Kate Fox, the Macintosh Librarian, and I've since watched a few more of her videos! Her channel is completely focused on retro Apple tech, going into a good amount of detail on each episode's topic, and she does it in a very fun way. I highly recommend checking her out if you're interested in old Apple stuff as well! Also she gets bonus points for being part of the personal website gang.
Cary Huang released a pretty fun video on his cubing channel, where he modded a Rubik's Clock with polarized film! After the news hit that the World Cube Association were planning on removing Clock, a lot of people (including me) got quite upset. One of the reasons the WCA gave for removing it was it "not being spectator-friendly", which Cary took as a challenge to make this! I find it a very fun idea, even if a bit silly, but a proper version of this would look extremely cool.
Last week jamiedoestv, who's made a lot of great videos about (mostly British) TV shows, started a series where she goes over the history of Taskmaster! I found her channel from Taskmaster when I started watching it myself, as she's made a lot of videos about it, and although I'm already familiar with the general story of the show, it's always nice to see it being retold, and I did learn about a lot of stuff I didn't know!
Speaking of Taskmaster, over the last weeks I've kept watching Taskmaster New Zealand, and I just finished Series 4 this week! I've not been talking about it much, similar to the original Taskmaster UK, but I do want to say that Series 4 is probably my favourite NZ Series yet, and easily one of my favourites ever.
This time I'm leaving the ususals towards the end, I think it feels better this way.
I really enjoyed JM8's Design Delve episode on Myst, which is a game I've actually been planning on playing myself again soon, as my most recent experiences with it were from CGP Grey playing it 5 years ago. I also really enjoyed Odyssey Central's video on useless Minecraft facts, and this week's Kill Count on The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Dead Meat, which is definitely one I've been looking forward to for a long time!
I have a bit of art again, which is very nice!
- I saw this beautiful summer art by Yeran reposted on /r/ImaginarySliceOfLife, which is somehow very cozy despite being very summer-y.
- Speaking of Imaginary Slice of Life, there's also this very silly piece of a dragon at the mall by Xiao Tong, which is absolutely adorable.
- LoadingReadyRun's Kathleen De Vere shared an image of a statue by Shilpa Gupta from the Hamburger Bahnhof museum, which I found quite meaningful!
Lastly, I want to talk about the games I've played. I've played a bit more of Mina The Hollower, I did something very big in Geometry Dash (though I'll reveal that on Monday), and after writing my Bit City retrospective/review I did decide to prestige today, though I plan on making a separate post about how that's going. The main thing this week is that I'm finally tackling my goal again of chipping away at my backlog, and I tried two new games from my Steam library!
First, a small free puzzle game called RYB, made by FLEB, who also made another small free puzzle game I liked called 20 Small Mazes. This one's a game where you have to fill shapes with certain colours depending on the shapes surrounding them, which say what colours they neighbour. I haven't completed the game, not even close, but I've enjoyed a lot of the puzzles, and it's genuinely a bit challenging after a certain point. I'll definitely be chipping away at this game for the next few days!
Second, a game that I've been procrastinating with playing for far too long, Dungeons of Hinterberg! I learned about the game from Yahtzee's review, but for some reason I haven't played it until yesterday. I haven't gotten far enough to go in depth about it at all, but I've really enjoyed it so far! I do find the artstyle quite charming, and I've really enjoyed the gameplay, especially the puzzles.
I will say though, playing on my MacBook via Parallels, it has been giving me a few graphic issues. Some objects just become invisible, even on low graphic settings; sometimes with random objects, but it can also happen to important ones, or even walls and tunnels, which I can see through as if I'm in Minecraft's spectator mode. Fortunately the game is still quite playable, but I did feel like bringing that up. Regardless, I have really enjoyed it so far!

This has been a pretty good week for me once again! Still a bit tough sometimes, but with all of the media I've engaged with I've still remained positive, and I hope to for a while!
