The 10 Most Connected Airports

As I might've mentioned previously, due to me going on a trip outside my country for the first time in 2 years, I've been in a mood to research about aviation stuff! A bit ago I made an infographic showing the most common letters in airport codes, and today I remade a previous project about airports.

In this infographic I mark the ten airports with the most connections to other airports in the world! I originally made this a bit before my previous trip, funnily enough, but I decided to remake it completely from scratch! This time with up-to-date information, and a much more improved and streamlined design.

I got the data from Direct Flights, the entire sheet goes up to the top 50! As for the data covered here, though, in the Top 10 there's 5 airports in Europe, 3 in North America, and 2 in Asia. All of the ones in North America are in the United States, but all the others are in unique countries. The largest gap between airports is actually with 1st and 2nd place, which have a difference of 29 airports (thanks Zipf!).

This is my first new map in a while, I am pretty sure since January of this year at least, and it was definitely good to get some practice in again! It took me about 4.5 hours to make which isn't that long compared to some of my larger projects, but definitely not the easiest thing to return to, especially due to the extremely different format.

However, in the end it was extremely fun to make! Again, it's always nice to get some practice on this again, and also it was just generally fun to research and find ways to make it look as nice and legible as possible!
